Data is meaningless without context

We know health data is not standardized.

Our distinctive approach is in truly understanding the meaning behind what is being captured cross-platforms. We address the realities of data fragmentation – both unstructured and structured formats – and invest heavily in the significance of providing a patient narrative that can be universally accessible.

Medal’s patient-centric approach sets us apart, here’s how:

  • Safely and securely store patient charts, progress notes, reports, and even snippets and blobs of text — read more about our security here.
  • Render best-performing Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on every document
  • Use clinically-driven Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning to index and stitch together the patient’s journey, longitudinally.
  • We then train and curate the information using industry-wide standards following the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) coding and classification, not limited to ICD9/ICD10, SNOMED CT, CPT Code, LOINC, RxNorm
  • We also take the extra step in de-identifying Protected Health Information (PHI) to allow for knowledge viewing and sharing.
  • Normalize data so that it is ready for the Medal App or any other analytics engine, third-party applications – embracing the latest HL7-FHIR standards
